Boundary Scan Resource Unit (BSRU)
HCL BSRU is a JTAG compatible unit to test both JTAG and Non-JTAG circuits. This standalone replaces an in-circuit tester and varied programmers for testing and programming the UUT in any manufacturing line. The BSRU can be configured for varied resource cards which can be plugged into to test. Each BSRU can take up to 4 resource boards in any combination and the user friendly software system enables easy configuration as per the UUT requirement.
The various resource cards are:
- IO board for raw boundary scan pins
- Discrete board for latched sense / drive pins
- Digital board for testing UUT edge connector signals
- Backplane for interconnectivity between the resource boards
Boundary scan technology enables extensive debugging and diagnostics on a system through a small number of dedicated test pins. JTAG capability enables in-circuit testing eliminating the need for bed-of-nail in circuit test equipment. Most new microprocessors include boundary scan circuitry for testing and in-circuit emulation.

Customer success story
The Customer is a Tier 1 Aerospace Major who is using this in electronic board assembling and manufacturing where the boards are with multiple layers and diagnostics of the boards will be complex. Traditionally these manufacturing companies have been using custom made jigs, in-circuit testers or tools from other JTAG vendors. The BSRU is a low cost solution compared to the solution already available in the market. This provides the customer to increase the test coverage of the boards by introducing JTAG components to non Boundary scan boards.
