Legacy Mainframe Application
Today, customers whose applications reside on legacy IT infrastructure are facing increasing pressures as the result of a declining skilled-resource base, high cost of ownership and a lack of flexibility to leverage new and emerging technologies. Customers are facing challenges in extracting maximum utility from their legacy infrastructure and in optimizing their application portfolio to keep pace with business demands. Dynamic business environments and the need to collaborate with partners, suppliers, and customers call for modernization of legacy applications for higher agility and flexibility.
Over 70% of the world's active business applications run on legacy platforms like mainframe and AS/400. Customers run mission-critical functions on these platforms and the replacement cost of these business applications is estimated at an unviable $20 trillion. Moreover recent technological investments and advancements on these legacy platforms from vendors like IBM have made it imperative for customers to maintain the legacy platforms and modernize, or migrate them based on requirements.

HCL has developed a five-phased proprietary methodology on SOA-based modernization called Service Driven Application Modernization Methodology (SDAM) illustrated in Figure.
