Success Stories
BEA - The IT Portfolio Management Story
Client: A leading healthcare company with a uniquely broad spectrum of innovative solutions for its core business units - Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics.
Area of Engagement: PLM Migration / Integration
The original focus of the Application Data Architecture (ADA) project was to gather application-business relationship information and provide a central application inventory. The project was finally evolved to encompass management of core data, PGL DCC, and relevant CSV information - complete IT Portfolio Management.
HCL Solution- A great deal of useful information was locked in paper documents, in MS Excel and Access, and as knowledge in individuals. A repository was developed for centrally storing, using and maintaining this data.
- Originally, ADA was an information gathering initiative and not an application development project. The application developed is web deployable, user friendly and contains many features essentially required by PGL. It supports application infrastructure information (Servers, Databases, Technologies etc) gathered and also Core Data (Interfaces). Extensive reporting functionality was provided.
- User requests are sent over HTTP to the ADA 2.0 application deployed under BEA WebLogic server. The Struts layer determines the action to be taken and forwards the requests to the appropriate action class (application layer). The action class then interacts with the data access layer class for database activity and then the Struts layer will determine the page to be rendered to the user.
- Reduced repeated application inventory effort
- Provided an application inventory data repository to support pharma information migration
