The customer is one of the leading life insurers offering a comprehensive portfolio of Life Insurance and Annuity products, including Universal Life, Variable Life, Term Life, Fixed and Variable Annuities and a variety of equity products.
The Business Context
A Retirement Annuity Program is a financial tool that is used by the public to understand the Annuity products and investment options provided by the customer, and to request for a quote based on the individual's personal data. This financial tool provides additional information, including the number of years the asset will last for the selected investment. The annuity calculation has got options to accept single lump sum or monthly installment investments for the selected guaranteed retirement income stream.
Solution Objectives
The customer wanted HCL to develop a user-friendly, and robust website (containing the financial tool mentioned above) using Java / J2EE based technology to provide the Retirement Annuity Program financial tool for use by the public.
Solution Approach
HCL formed a team of business and technical experts, and submitted a detailed technical approach document for the website development along with application interface information. The team then built the interface and the website to the APL engine as a web service, enabling other applications interfacing with APL engine to easily migrate to this Java Interface product.
HCL developed the tool and website, and tested them using automated testing tools. HCL also provided a comparison study of the tool working on the new environment.
- The application is developed in J2EE, hence it is platform independent, scalable and easily maintainable.
- The product interface is a web service and can be used for other interface products to APL engine.
- The product has been delivered with automated test tool scripts, to help in future enhancements.
