HCL’s Europe operations are spread throughout UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden and have grown to acquire more than 70 customers over the last 5 years. The key focus areas/ verticals within Europe are Financial Services, Retail and Utility, Life Sciences, Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment, and Manufacturing, predominantly within the Aerospace and Automotive sectors.
 
HCL’s Europe business contribution has increased from 7% of the company’s revenues (FY01) to 29% (FY07), making it the fastest growing geography for HCL. European revenues have grown by 54% year-on-year to 30.5% of total revenue.

Milestone customer engagements
Servicing 2 of the largest outsourcing engagements in the region – one in transformational outsourcing for one of the largest banks in Europe and the other in the near shoring of BPO services in for BT, HCL has successfully developed marquee engagements in the region. With the acquisition of AnswerCall Direct Contact Centre in Feb 2005, it has grown to become Northern Ireland’s largest BPO delivery operations and one of the top 10 private sector employers in Europe.
 
In Jan 2006, HCL bid and won the largest outsourcing contract ever to be awarded to any Indian service provider. HCL entered into a multi-year, multi-service, multi-million-dollar co-sourcing deal to provide system development, application delivery, infrastructure support and maintenance services to the IS function of DSG international Plc, Europe’s leading specialist electrical retailer.
 
DSG international trades in 14 European countries and serves 100 million customers every year. In the UK it trades as Dixons, Currys, PC World and The Link. The Group specializes in the sale of high technology consumer electronics, personal computers, domestic appliances, photographic equipment, communication products and related financial and after sales services.
 
In Dec 2006, HCL Europe announced a $200 million, multi-service, five-year contract with Skandia UK, a leading independent provider of long-term savings solutions. As part of the deal, Skandia UK will outsource application optimization, including development, maintenance and support (across all platforms) and remote infrastructure management to HCL.
 
Skandia UK is part of an international group founded in Sweden in 1855. The group is a leading, independent provider of long-term savings solutions. Skandia UK is a division of the Skandia Group, itself owned by Old Mutual plc. Old Mutual is an international financial services group, listed on the London Stock Exchange where it is a FTSE 100® company, making it one of the largest 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
 
Recent multi-million dollar deals
  • Alenia Aeronautica (Under this deal HCL Technologies will redesign the C27J Spartan aircraft, a project that emphasizes the growing strategic importance of India to the global aviation industry. Alenia Aeronautica is a major player in the aerospace industry and the Italian leader in aeronautics).
  • CMS Cameron McKenna LLP (HCL Technologies has entered into an IT co-sourcing agreement with Cameron McKenna under which HCL will be providing integrated IT services, covering IT infrastructure management and application development. CMS Cameron McKenna LLP is a major UK and international law firm).
  • A large music company (For this large, independent music company, HCL Technologies will provide Integrated applications and infrastructure management)

  • ICT Employer of the Year - HCL was named as a top ICT employer in the UK for 2 years running in 2005 and 2006, joining the ranks of top businesses employees aspire to work for.
  • Investor of the Year - HCL UK also was recognized as Top Investor of the Year 2006 by the UK Trade and Investment Board.
  • London Business School has published a report in their annual “Business Strategy Review” recognising “Organisational Innovation” in 10 notable global organisations, including HCL Technologies, the lone Indian company featured. The report talks about “Employee First” as a new model of management and talks about “HCL heading in the right direction”.
  • Ovum Europe – Has acknowledged in a recent report that HCL’s vertical strategy on the region has been successful proven by the recent deal wins and impressive growth rates
