Factory Automation and Data on Demand

As the industry moved towards increasing wafer sizes, decreasing line widths and increasing complexity of tools, the IC makers, and equipment vendors are facing newer challenges like:

  • Need to move into fully automated manufacturing facilities to increase productivity and reduce loss resulting in integration of complex 300mm automation scenarios on tool and factory side.
  • Increasing the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), by improving the yield and productivity of the tools and reducing the startup and downtime of equipments. This can be achieved by better real-time and statistical control of equipments and better predictive maintenance of tools. These techniques required more extensive data from the tools both, with respect to tool operational data, process related data, and traditional control and data lines hitherto used (SECS communication) is found to be insufficient to meet the data demands of these productivity improvement applications. The newer EDA standards addresses this issue by providing a data acquisition channel from the tool and requiring additional software both at equipment end as well as factory side.
  • Integrating large amount of data from disparate equipment and providing the data to factory side applications.
