Positive Train Control

Implementation of Positive Train Control by the end of 2015 will require installation of tens of thousands of Wayside Interface Units (WIU) to provide real-time track conditions. The maintenance burden of existing and newly installed hardware will require greater productivity of the field personnel while simultaneously managing the costs to perform scheduled maintenance in remote locations.

HCL has developed an SW maintenance solution for railroads that not only identifies the location of each installed WIU by manufacturer/ model, but also provides an optimized maintenance schedule (normal and exception reporting) by geographic territory for the individual signal maintainer via a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT). The MDT will be directly connected and will interface with the railroad’s legacy systems and field component master database.

Solution Highlights

  • Effective control of rigorous maintenance schedules
  • Optimized schedule for signal maintainer, based on territory
  • Seamless operation of fixed linear assets and mobile assets maintaining safety
  • No overlapping of maintenance schedule
