Towards 5G, Artificial neural networks and EDGE computing Part-2
Jayaramakrishnan Sundarraj - Senior Technical Lead | December 12, 2019

In the first part of this blog “Towards 5G, Artificial neural networks and EDGE computing-Part 1”, we discussed the basic understanding of 5G, EDGE and ANN (Artificial neural networks). In this blog, we will see how 5G along with ANN and edge, can play a pivotal role in the communication evaluation. 5G communication needs higher bandwidth and lower latency, but the existing backbone internet doesn’t keep up with the above requirement due to the store and forward design and network congestion. So, to overcome this, the 5G network needs to process huge big data at edge itself and have better storage capability, as well as advanced CPU and GPU computing for intelligent decision. These requirements can be fulfilled by a combination of edge computing and artificial neural network-based machine learning algorithms effectively.

What is interpretability? Simply stated, it is having the ability to confidently tell, how/why a machine learning model is making the decisions, it was tasked to make.

Why it is important ? We can today predict that some customers may no longer be associated with a brand –we would want to know why such a prediction was made, as this will assist in understanding the possible reasons as to why the customers are leaving a brand.

AR/VR- technology enabler for improved learning
Dirgha Prasad - Senior Management Trainee VSOM Team | November 27, 2019

Student enrolment rates have gone up considerably, from 216 million to 380 million in 14 years. With increase in earnings of the working population and easier access to study material, the education industry is thriving. Growing internet penetration and possession of smart devices have facilitated e-content and made it accessible across the value chain. The growing popularity of digital textbooks, coupled with modes of smart learning (enabled through Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) techniques), will drive the growth of the education market. However, there are a few challenges and therefore, for effective AR/VR implementation in the education industry, it will be essential to strike a balance between enhancing student experience and investing in other core infrastructure activities.

AI in Publishing and Information Services
Kannan Janardhanan - Senior Director | November 25, 2019

Publishing and information services organizations can deliver customer value by curating contextualized content and mining for actionable insights from both structured and unstructured big data. Largely unstructured, big data is spread across emails, PDFs, MS Office files, and images, making it difficult to be described or discovered, let alone be used for actionable insights. AI helps with content curation on various topics where human efforts are simply untenable. AI would assist in research and review, segregating factual data from errors, influencing outcomes, and ultimately, helping publishers deliver a hyper-personalized experience to a wider audience. AI will play an active role in augmenting intelligence in products developed by information service providers. They can cater to educationists, financial customers, clinicians in healthcare, legal experts in legal and regulatory scenarios, and business owners for tax implications.

Towards 5G, Artificial neural networks and EDGE computing Part-1
Jayaramakrishnan Sundarraj - Senior Technical Lead | November 21, 2019

The digital disruption will be the new age digital revolution similar to the 1700s or early 1800s industrial revolution and its impact on modern society. Mobile data traffic is rising rapidly due to new paradigms such as virtual reality, augmentation reality, mixed reality, autonomous vehicle, V2X, real time multi-player gaming, massive IoT like billions of connected intelligent IoT devices, and sensors. With billions of connected devices, the end user has a multifold growing number of connections. So, existing network technologies are fast becoming inept at handling these kinds of new communication wave which need improved energy efficiency model, ultra-low latency and high bandwidth requirements.

In this blog, the author discusses the 5th generation network system, EDGE computing, neural network-based machine learning models and its application on edge systems and 5th generation communication network.

comes to breaking such a triangle by disrupting the status quo.

Industries such as commercial aviation and computing went through disruptions which made services affordable, accessible, and better over time. The same is possible for the healthcare industry. This is especially true in a time when technological breakthroughs, better medical understanding, and deeper research interests are intersecting to create a ripe environment for the inevitable disruptions that will herald the next era in healthcare. This is where Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare comes in. Read the blog to know more.

The amazing power of synthetic data to drive AI innovation
Jayachandran Kizhakootramachandran - Associate Vice President | October 21, 2019

Digitization, Internet of things, connected humans, connected machines, and connected world are all generating large volumes of data at an unprecedented scale. IDC predicts that by 2025, there will be 175 zettabytes of data and continue growing at an exponential scale. These trends would give an impression that data is available at an unbelievable scale at everyone’s disposal. It’s not exactly so. Many artificial intelligence (AI) projects and innovations get stalled due to non-availability of data or because the data collection process is too cumbersome and time consuming. Believe it or not but great ideas get nipped in the bud due to data scarcity!
