Users’ Interaction with Modern Style

Few days back, I was delighted to see modern style UI on www.myhcl.com. Nowadays, very often we see that many Web/mobile/desktop applications are implementing modern style and the layout also looks appealing and precise too. As you all know, modern style is innovated by Microsoft and it is the main feature of the Windows-8. Earlier, they named it metro style design and nowadays it is called Modern Style. It was an in-house code identity of a typography-based design manifestation.

Microsoft team’s motivational source for Modern Style was those signs which originated from public transportation systems. Generally these signs can be found at airdromes, subway and other places in the city for ease of navigation. Modern Style Guidelines also help users in a similar way.

An user’s Interaction with graphics is intensely based on looking at things and interacting with visual ingredients. You can see that Modern Style has no glossy effects, no transparency and no color gradients. On the contrary, it has just straightforward, bold and plain white icons on vivid colored boxes.

Initially, I was missing the polished effects of previous style of ‘Windows’ and was not able to adopt to the new look. In fact some of my Graphic Designer friends were also of the same opinion that, they were quite used to seeing the desktop (icons/yellow folders) in a conventional way and were taken aback when they saw the new tile-based layout of it.  See the transformation below:

Effective Design Style Always Matters

On the other hand, in an age of modernization, how could the new trend stay behind? Slowly and gradually I also fell in love with the trend and hue of Windows-8 because of its smoothness and impactful colors. In fact, when we come across some eye-catching graphic in our day-to-day lives, such as hoarding at roadside or any TV commercial, there is a feel good factor in us which signifies that effective design style always appeals to the end-audience and I guess it is a key area for any product. Nowadays, we use gadgets, such as tablets and mobiles and are able to correlate the colors & design of the creation that play a major role and is the most significant characteristic of any UI or visual design.

If I talk about my experience with the work involving Modern Style framework, I must mention that the entire crux was a unique experience while working on the artifacts of Windows 8 applications. I observed that there was a lot of flexibility to focus on the content while not using any of the prior conventional user interface traditions. With this new style, information turned into a well-illustrated element with the direction control. Gesticulation and evolution of the modern style standards allows the end-user to pay attention to content and information. For example, see the following sample design:

Conclusion

Modern Style design standards allow designers to create simple, explanatory and intuitive UI and let users interact directly with content and information. For example, when I was creating a visual design using modern style principles, I learnt that modern style deliberates the design language purposely so that it could merge the sets of tasks collectively to speed-up the procedure and user interaction much more efficiently. Users can react to actions innovatively and modern style creates a better sense of connection.
