Careers in India
Indian IT firms contributed to almost every sphere of America’s scientific and technological achievements in California’s Silicon Valley in the 1980s and 1990s, and they introduced shared services and outsourcing concepts. Even as other developing countries emerge as major rivals, India has maintained its competitive edge, holding on to its spot as the destination of choice for nearly 80 percent of European and U.S. firms that outsource.
Low costs and a diversely skilled and talented English-speaking workforce are just part of the reason. Just as important is a customer-centric approach among Indian IT firms, which results in innovative, customized solutions in their partnerships. Much of tomorrow’s success, however, will depend on new domain solutions and technology platforms.
HCL is proud to be part of India’s heritage of IT innovation. In 1976, when there were only 250 computers in the country, Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, led a team of eight young people who passionately believed in the power of information technology and the potential to create a thriving IT industry in India. From that vision, born in a Delhi “barsaati” (a small rooftop room), has grown a global enterprise. Today, leading IT research and advisory firms report that HCL is one of the top five Indian IT service providers. In India, HCL serves Union Bank, Punjab National Bank, National Stock Exchange, Deutsche Bank, Kotak, and several conglomerates in the financial services sector; NTPC, Indian Oil, and National Informatics Centre amongst others in the public sector; and Eureka Forbes, Future Group, and Oxford University Press amongst other large businesses.
As it pursues economic growth, HCL never wavers in its commitment to employee well-being, environmental responsibility, and society at large. HCL has been widely recognized for its contributions to India’s business and societal goals.
HCL’s APAC Customer Advisory Council helps HCL align solutions with local market requirements and serves as an exceptional platform for HCL clients and their industry peers to exchange ideas and best practices. The Council has been recognized through several awards — including the Forrester Groundswell Award in the B2B category — for the trust it fosters between HCL and its customers.
In 1994, with a mission to develop global leaders in India through focused philanthropy, Shiv Nadar established the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Today it is one of the largest philanthropic institutions in India. The foundation is investing generously in creating leadership institutions that serve urban and rural populations: Vidya Gyan, which nurtures leadership in rural India; Shiv Nadar Schools, which creates a community of independent, lifelong learners; Shiv Nadar University, which specializes in specific disciplinary areas and develop a broad-based learning foundation; and SSN College of Engineering, which has created leaders in diverse fields since 1996.
HCL’s Learning and Development Group helps employees become effective leaders and drive positive business outcomes. HCL Certified Professional Program for young graduates, Collaborative Value Creation Program, Career Coaching, and Onsite Success to develop cultural competence are among several learning programs HCL offers its employees.
