Challenges We Address
As the factory automation industry moves towards increasing wafer sizes and complex tools, and decreasing line widths, semiconductor/IC makers and equipment vendors need new solutions to overcome new challenges, such as:
- The need for fully automated manufacturing facilities that could increase productivity and reduce losses through the integration of complex 300mm automation scenarios on the tool and factory side.
- The need for increasing Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), by improving the yield and productivity of the tools and reducing the startup/ downtime of equipment. This can be achieved by better real-time and statistical control of equipment, and better maintenance of the tools. These techniques require extensive data with respect to tool operational data, process related data, and traditional control and data lines hitherto used (SECS communication) and found to be insufficient to meet the data demands of these productivity improvement applications. The newer EDA standards address this issue by providing a data acquisition channel from the tool, requiring additional software both at the equipment and factory level.
- The need for integrating large amounts of data from disparate equipment and providing such data to factory side applications.
