Client

Client is a Fortune 500 company in Australia providing waste management and industrial services wanted HCL to design and develop a Mobile Data Terminal to provide Fleet telematics application, Call and data handling, Location Tracking, Connectivity (GSM/GPRS, 3G, WLAN, Blue tooth, GPS) OBD II diagnostics, Data storage (USB, SD, CF card).
 

Project Description

Our customer, a worldwide waste management company needed a state of the art technological solution to automate complete operation of their business consisting of a fleet of trucks and back offices to improve fleet utilization

HCL Solution

  • HCL proposed a solution consisting of Onboard Electronic unit and SAP based back office automation.
  • Onboard unit tracks the vehicle position, measures speed and bin weight, receives job orders from back office and dynamically schedules the job of waste collection. It also generates customer billing, receives customer sign off on job completion and monitors the driving behaviour and reports to back office.
  • Onboard Unit is designed around WLAN, 3G modem, GPS receiver, Bluetooth and OBDII to provide these functionalities.
  • In addition to this certain applications such as real time truck tracking, geo fencing, incoming/outgoing call and on board diagnostics were added.
  • SAP based back office automation is designed to collect data received from various trucks on the field, analyse them, generate reports, monitor and track the trucks, issue job orders.HCL provided Integrated Services Delivery (ISD) of this solution by synergising expertises and capabilities availablein Electronics HW/SW engineering, Mechanical Design engineering and SAP Application Development.
  • HCL engineering team was responsible for the C2M (concept to manufacturing) of Onboard Units and Application team was responsible for C2D (Concept to Deployment) of back office solution.
  • Engineering teams handled the complete design of Onboard Unit comprising Embedded Hardware, Embedded and Application software, Mechanical design of enclosure, compliance engineering for automotive standards.
  • Application team handled SAP Database development, SAP application development and deployment. HCL was responsible for volume manufacturing (low) of Onboard Units and supported field installation.

  • (GSM and WiFi).
