The printed documents are highly critical from personal identity proofs to business transactions, it has warranted the need of automatic, accurate, and robust digital document forgery detection system. In this whitepaper, we discuss the need for such a system along with the many challenges posed by recent technological developments in creating forged document. The paper also briefly discuss the underlying physics behind various existing methods proposed for document forgery detection. In particular, we discuss (i) extrinsic approaches based on embedding of external fingerprint and (ii) intrinsic approaches which relies on artifacts introduced by printing or image acquisition devices and image processing steps. Further, we describe the advantages of HCLTech’s Intelligent document forgery detection system. This system is based on HCLTech’s IDORAN framework and is capable of verifying the integrity of document images.
