Abstract
The ingredients of Industrial Design are well known. The purpose of Industrial Design has also been understood. What is important is that to understand as to how Industrial Design in operation, interacts with a huge number of domain expertise for realizing a product and how can a company or an industry get maximum competitive advantage by way of utilizing the services of Industrial Design. This paper highlights the process of Industrial Design its relations and connections with technology and marketing and management thereof which are not only for redesigning a particular product but up to realization of New Product Development and Innovations.

A large number of data survey search, study, interviews, comments indicate that the following trends, factors and areas may influence the direction and level of intervention of Industrial Design in the future:
 
  • Green and sustainable material: According to Ami Verhalen, Director of Industrial Design, Design Concepts, Wisconsin, “…consumers are increasingly interested in green, environmentally friendly products. Designers like Yves Béhar for Herman Miller and Harry Bertoia are designing eco-friendly products such as energy-saving desk light, sustainable outdoor chair, respectively. Manufacturers are increasingly using  sustainable materials, focusing on a clean production process, environmental impact of shipping and production. Honda is already in the process of launching their FCX and Puyo which are eco-friendly fuel-cell concept cars. Toyota and Nissan are also in the same process of innovating eco-friendly cars.
 
  • Simplexity: In such a concept, products will be smaller, have more features but would be simple to use too. The Dremel Driver screwdriver and the Oliso Frisper vacuum packager come in this category.
 
  • Industrial Design at the Systems level and for the services sector: Systems and service sector level integration of Industrial Design would be required in such cases like in designing Airports, Bus Stands and Terminuses, Manufacturing plants, waste disposal systems, Hospital  and healthcare systems etc.
