Estimating Software size with a fair degree of accuracy is vital to the success of any software project. Standard software estimation models deal with the entire product development life cycle and do not allow creating estimates for individual phases of a project. A noticeable gap exists in the field of estimation for software testing. Industry estimates put the effort for testing as a phase of the Software Development Lifecycle between 30% to 70% of the total effort. Although a number of models have been proposed for test estimation, there is a demand for addressing specific needs in this area.

The approach described for size estimation provides a robust and mathematical approach to solving the very real business problem of keeping pace with asynchronous platform changes and certifying existing software to work against these changes.
