Automotive Security - Connected Vehicles Security Solutions | HCLTech

Traditional cars were designed with the assumption of isolated in-vehicle network. The security of those cars was hence often considered to be related to physical parts. This has changed when connected vehicles were introduced. They come with not only convenient but also safety related features to assist drivers in controlling the vehicles. Their connectivity attracts many malicious actors which results in an increasing number of attacks on connected cars. Automotive security has therefore evolved from preventing physical threats to tackling cybersecurity attacks. Besides, advance software on cars --- similar to mobile applications --- could introduce not only security vulnerabilities but privacy concerns to car’s users which were often not the case in traditional cars. This paper looks at the attack motivation, the security and privacy of connected vehicles. Future directions to improve the security and privacy of the automotive domain will also be discussed.
