For success of any project, a pre-requisite is to follow the right execution approach, use right tools and track the right metrics. Scrum model may be a popular choice, but Agile framework is much more. Scrum model is not fit for Sustenance Engineering projects due to all the reasons highlighted in this paper. Sustenance Engineering activities require high agility and adaptability which can be provided by Kanban or Scrumban models. These models, along with modern intelligent analytics based solutions will give an organization a cutting edge over its competitors, by reducing cost, lower release to market times, and finer control over project execution. This paper will try to highlight the differences in nature of work between new development and sustenance phases of the product lifecycle, and which Agile practice is best suitable for Sustenance Engineering.
