SOA Registry Product Evaluation

SOA Registry Product Evaluation

Abstract
This document is created by the HCL SOA Center for Excellence for internal use. It compares different SOA Registry products on various criteria. It also provides a quick introduction to SOA Registry and the evaluation criteria. This document is useful for project managers, architects, and senior developers. It is not meant as a technical study; instead, it distills the experiences we had with various products, so that project managers may make appropriate decisions backed by our experience. The best use of this document would be to understand what Registry products offer and map them to the needs of an enterprise. A further study, specific to the context of its use, can identify the appropriate product based on the internal processes of the target enterprise.

Excerpts from the Paper
The Service Registry is a central piece of SOA architecture where services are published and managed. It allows an enterprise to manage the service lifecycle as their services grow. Its main objective is to increase reusability by letting services and people discover the available services. The Service Registry product offers catalog service, policy management, SLA information, and support for processes such as approval process for new service publishing, and retirement of old services.
