• Ability to debug & diagnose DBMS system and utility software
• Requires IMS Sysplex experience & datasharing expertise
• Various types of IMS restarts (COLD/WARM/ERE).
• Knowledge about IMS SYSGEN process - Defining/Adding Transactions and Programs to the IMS system.
• Knowledge of IMS Controls Blocks (DBDs, PSBs, ACBs).
• Knowledge of IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC) concepts and RECON datasets
• Should be able to handle the annual Disaster Recovery (DR) exercise activities.
• Sound knowledge about IMS Logging - OLDS; SLDS; WADS;RLDS
• Command Codes: Concepts and usage of different command codes. Both Type 1 and Type 2 IMS commands and various IMS Utilities
• Working knowledge of IMS Upgrades.
• Checkpoint - Restart: Difference between Basic and Symbolic Check pointing and corresponding Restart logic.
• Secondary Indexing concepts
• Fast path database processing concept: Main Storage Databases (MSDBs) and Data Entry Databases (DEDBs)
• Difference between DLI and BMP modes.
• Different access methods: HDAM, HIDAM, PHDAM, PHIDAM etc...
• Design, code and maintain DBMS system exits
• Performance analysis & tuning for DBMS subsystems
• IMS Monitoring Tool- Proficient- Required Monitoring tool
• Proficient in JCL, TSO/SDSF/JES2/SYSVIEW/SMP/E
• The ability to manage small groups, lead projects and coordinate multiple tasks under time and resource constraints.
• The ability to deal with complex problems and issues and then be able to propose intelligent practical solutions
