Automation of the entire de-MABIS conversion for the worlds largest Life Insurance Provider

Client: The client is one of the world’s largest providers of life insurance, pensions and long-term savings and investment products.

The client had taken significant steps to reorganize its businesses as part of broader efforts to improve efficiency by bringing product knowledge, administration and IT under one roof. The non life insurance subsidiary of the client had faced problems related to the maintenance of a homegrown case tool called MABIS that generated COBOL code. With nine critical back office applications that supported the business using this tool, the client was looking to HCL, its offshore strategic partner to de-MABIS all the applications.

HCL proposed a factory approach to automate the entire de-MABIS conversion and achieved 100% automation. Many new products were released on time to market. Migration projects, new big enhancement projects and many maintenance releases were successfully executed by HCL with top quality, zero schedule variance, minimal budget variance and effort variance. As a value-add to SCS, HCL developed a documentation generation tool also. By using this tool the client could generate documentation for all the 9 de-MABISed applications.
