Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) AMP Program
AMP stands for Ascend, Momentum and Polaris. It is a meritocratic selection process for fresh engineering graduates at HCLTech, where it is your skills that decide the salary.
AMP enables candidates to join at the right level and grow further through three progressive tracks:
- Ascend – The lift to your career start.
- Momentum – The drive that accelerates your growth.
- Polaris – The brilliance that helps you reach the top tier.
Yes, training support is available in two ways:
i. Primus Campus Initiative: HCLTech partners with select engineering colleges, called HCLTech Primus Campuses, where an industry-aligned curriculum is integrated to bridge the gap between academics and real-world requirements. Students from these campuses receive training that better equips them for AMP assessments.
ii. Training for Non-Primus and Off-Campus Candidates: Candidates hired from non-Primus colleges or through Off-Campus drives are required to undergo mandatory pre-joining training and clear a post-training assessment. This program is designed to strengthen their technical and professional skills, enabling them to perform better in evaluations and potentially upgrade their offer from Ascend to Momentum or Polaris.
These represent three salary levels under AMP:
- Ascend: All candidates who successfully clear the selection process will receive an offer under the Ascend Program. The salary package will vary based on the location of posting. At HCLTech New Vistas locations (Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada, and Madurai), the salary will be ₹3.75 LPA, while for all other locations it will be ₹4.50 LPA.
- Momentum & Polaris: The top 10% of Ascend candidates, based on their further skill assessment, can upgrade to Momentum at ₹6.0 LPA or Polaris at ₹10.0 LPA.
The Ascend test has three stages:
- Cognitive Test – Numerical, Verbal, Reasoning: ~90 minutes
- Coding Test/ Technical Test: 60 to 90 minutes
- Versant Test – Assesses English speaking and listening proficiency. A score of 46–56 (B1 level) is required to qualify.
Only candidates who clear the Cognitive and Coding tests proceed to the Versant Test. Upon successful completion, candidates move forward to Technical and HR interviews.
Yes. All fresh engineering graduates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria are eligible for AMP, whether hired on-campus or off-campus.
The top 10% of candidates who clear the Ascend assessment are evaluated further through additional interviews, hackathons, or technical tests.
Based on their performance and ranking, they may be upgraded to:
- Momentum (₹6.0 LPA), or
- Polaris (₹10.0 LPA).
- For candidates applying to Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada, and Madurai, the minimum academic requirement is 65% or above throughout academics (Class 10, Class 12, and graduation). For all other locations, the eligibility criterion is 70% or above throughout academics to qualify for the AMP program.
- Engineering degree in any branch.
