Overview

As automotive products become increasingly software-defined, engineering organizations face growing complexity in managing requirements, development, testing and validation activities across the entire product lifecycle. A leading automotive software and technology organization sought to modernize its environment by introducing PTC Codebeamer as a central platform for engineering collaboration and traceability.

However, the organization operated within a highly heterogeneous tool landscape, with multiple disconnected systems supporting different stages of the V-model. This fragmentation created challenges in maintaining consistency, visibility and end-to-end traceability across development processes.

To address these challenges, the client partnered with ASAP Group, a HCLTech company. Leveraging deep ALM expertise and extensive experience with Codebeamer, we helped define processes, integrate diverse engineering tools, migrate legacy data and build custom automation capabilities. The result was a unified engineering ecosystem that streamlined collaboration, improved traceability and established a scalable foundation for future software development initiatives.

The Challenge

As software became increasingly central to automotive innovation, the client recognized the need for a unified application lifecycle management platform. However, achieving this vision required overcoming several complex challenges.

The first challenge stemmed from a fragmented tool landscape spanning the entire V-model. Different teams relied on multiple tools for requirements management, architecture design, testing, verification and validation. The lack of integration between these systems made it difficult to establish consistent processes and maintain traceability across the development lifecycle.

The second challenge involved introducing Codebeamer as a new enterprise-wide platform. Successfully deploying the solution required not only technical integration but also process alignment, user adoption and seamless migration from existing systems. Large volumes of engineering data distributed across multiple legacy systems and engineering platforms needed to be consolidated while ensuring continuity of ongoing development programs.

Additionally, the organization required a highly customized implementation that could accommodate evolving business requirements while supporting future scalability. The challenge was clear: create a connected engineering ecosystem that unifies tools, processes and teams while enabling complete lifecycle traceability.

The Solution

ASAP worked closely with the client to design and implement a comprehensive ALM transformation strategy centered around Codebeamer. The engagement combined consulting, integration, migration, automation and support services to establish a connected digital engineering environment.

Key highlights

  • Conducted ALM process consulting and definition aligned with ASPICE requirements
  • Defined traceability frameworks and engineering workflows across the complete V-model
  • Assessed the existing tool landscape and identified integration opportunities across architecture, testing and development environments
  • Designed and developed APIs and custom connectors to seamlessly integrate engineering tools with Codebeamer
  • Configured Codebeamer projects, trackers and artifacts to support the client’s engineering processes
  • Executed large-scale migration of engineering assets from multiple systems into a centralized ALM platform
  • Developed automated migration pipelines to accelerate and standardize data transfer across multiple Codebeamer instances
  • Built custom automation capabilities for testing, reporting and workflow management
  • Developed specialized connectors, including an EXAM connector, which later became part of the core product ecosystem
  • Provided multi-level platform support and collaborated directly with ecosystem partners to continuously enhance platform capabilities

The Impact

The integrated Codebeamer ecosystem transformed the client's engineering operations by creating a unified and traceable development environment. The initiative improved collaboration, standardized processes and enabled greater visibility across the lifecycle.

  • Consolidated engineering landscape: Unified engineering data from disparate systems into a centralized ALM platform, improving visibility, reducing complexity and streamlining lifecycle management.
  • Accelerated user adoption: Enabled the onboarding of more than 1,500 users onto the new Codebeamer platform, driving organization-wide adoption and collaboration.
  • End-to-end traceability: Established complete traceability across requirements, development, testing and validation activities, supporting compliance and improving engineering governance.
  • Enhanced automation and integration: Delivered custom connectors, migration pipelines and automation solutions that streamlined workflows, reduced manual effort and improved operational efficiency.
  • Future-ready development foundation: Created a homogeneous engineering ecosystem that supports scalability, process consistency and continuous innovation across software-defined vehicle programs.

By combining deep ALM expertise with a collaborative, customer-centric approach, we helped the client modernize its engineering landscape, accelerate digital transformation and establish a robust foundation for future automotive software development.
