Banking on the Future: Vision 2030
The 49th World Economic Forum (WEF) commenced on January 22, 2019, in the mountain town of Davos. HCLTech, in collaboration with Fast Company, was the front-runner in leading the conversation on how humanity’s relationship with technology will evolve through the next decade of rapid innovation.
As a part of the theme of Human-Machine Harmony, HCLTech launched Vision 2030 together with its ecosystem of partners and stakeholders. Fast Company leveraged the HCLTech Pavilion to conduct expert panel discussions with future leaders driving change across digital technologies, disruption in banking and financial services, the human capital equation, and the future of product innovation.
One such discussion was organized on the second day of the event on ‘Disruptive Innovation: Banking 2030’ with participants, including Ann Cairns, Vice Chairman, MasterCard; Laurent Le Moal, CEO, PayU; and Hikmet Ersek, President, CEO and Director, Western Union. The session explored how regulatory trends, cybersecurity, and the influx of data are driving innovations in the finserv industry.
The Democratization of financial services in emerging markets was identified as one of the biggest drivers of change in 2030 demonstrating how technology can spur financial inclusion of small businesses by disrupting the payments landscape. Ann Cairns, Executive Vice Chairman at Mastercard, shared how Mastercard and Unilever’s strategic partnership is helping micro-entrepreneurs in Africa overcome cash constraints, which limit their ability to grow their businesses.
Another session explored the push toward human-centered digital transformation and how by 2030, banks that commit to a human-centered transformation will be capable of achieving profound productivity gains. According to Cathy Bessant, Head of Global Operations and Technology at Bank of America (BoA), this has an important implication – it means that collaboration with users is the “secret sauce” to success.
