The article builds on the 2017 HCL and Massachusetts Institute of Technology survey, which found that more than 50 percent of companies felt they were already behind in harnessing IoT capabilities. To prevent delays, Sukamal recommends that IoT leaders get C-level buy-in at the start of the project, make sure their project is in alignment with both business operations and IT, and implement the right data capture system. He concludes with recommended best practices, but stresses that with the IoT, flexibility and openness are the best characteristics for success.
