Strategy, at its core, is about making deliberate choices and defining the trade-offs that shape long-term success. At HCLTech, our strategy is anchored in making clear choices about where we will play and how we will win. It serves as the connective tissue that aligns clients, employees, partners and shareholders around a shared ambition for sustained value creation. Forged over fifty years, our culture of entrepreneurship, empowerment and innovation enables us to translate strategic intent into practical, adaptable guidance that works across our global operations. Our strategic framework is intentionally simple yet precise and clear enough to guide consistent, value-creating decisions at every level. It is also flexible enough to unleash the creativity and ownership thatdrive execution at scale.
Aligned to this approach, we have our five medium-term strategic objectives:
- Leadership through differentiated services and products leveraging our engineering pedigree
- Employer of choice for professional services talent across chosen geographies
- Preferred digital and AI partner for Global 2000, equivalent and emerging enterprisesin chosen markets
- Weave ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) into business strategy
- Continue to deliver top quartile TSR (Total Shareholder Return) over the medium-term
Our path forward is guided by five medium-term strategic objectives that ensure our resources and activities are perfectly coordinated. These objectives are not static; we periodically refine them to make sure they remain relevant in an environment characterized by rapid technological shifts and evolving market demands. Each objective is explored in detail in the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD& A) section.
Underpinning these objectives are principles that define how we operate and compete. We are uncompromising in our client experience, anticipating evolving needs and delivering measurable outcomes that build enduring, trust-based partnerships. Talent is our defining asset and through our employee value proposition, “Find your Spark,” we align organizational ambition with individual aspiration, investing continuously in skills, leadership and next-generation work models that enable innovation to thrive. We translate high-level priorities into focused, executable initiatives supported by strong governance, enablement frameworks and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that organizational interlock is a reality rather than an aspiration. While we benchmark externally, our ambition is to outperform through innovation, operational rigor and a non-linear model that leverages platforms, intellectual property and ecosystem partnerships. Disciplined capital allocation ensures every investment strengthens our long-term competitive position, while transparent reporting and active stakeholder engagement build the trust necessary to attract clients, investors and partners aligned with our long-term journey. Together, these principles ensure that strategy is executed consistently, at scale and with sustained business impact.
Artificial intelligence represents more than an incremental advancement in technology. Rather, it is a structural reset of how value is created and captured across industries.
For the technology services sector, this inflection point is particularly consequential: transition from scale-led delivery to engineering-led transformation, knowledge and skills that once commanded a premium are being commoditized at speed, while the ability to re-architect systems, embed AI responsibly, manage complex data environments and deliver accountable business outcomes is becoming the true differentiator. HCLTech recognizes that AI is simultaneously deflationary, expansionary and evolutionary, automating repeatable work in some service categories, augmenting expertise in others and giving rise to entirely new categories of demand that did not exist before. Winning in this environment demands the discipline to disrupt proactively and the ambition to lead rather than merely pursuing incremental adaptation.
HCLTech’s response to this moment is driven by a clear strategic intent to grow into a global full-stack AI solutions powerhouse. This means moving beyond isolated proofs of concept to help clients achieve enterprise-scale AI adoption, making it practical, industrialized and measurable. The company is advancing this agenda through five integrated pillars: proactive service transformation, building differentiated intellectual property, scaling new AI-led services, strengthening the partnership ecosystem and transforming its people for the AI era. Operationally, HCLTech is transitioning from a people-centric delivery model to a unified system where software products, intelligent agents and human expertise work as one, driving scalable, reproducible outcomes. AI is embedded across the portfolio, not a standalone offering. It is accelerating engineering cycles, transforming operating models and enabling new digital business models. This is reinforced by continued investments in AI talent, proprietary accelerators and deep partnerships with hyperscalers and technology providers. Equally important, HCLTech is committed to responsible AI, ensuring that as adoption scales, it does so with the security, compliance and ethical transparency that enterprise clients and all stakeholders require. With its engineering depth, domain breadth, partnership strength and disciplined focus on measurable client outcomes, HCLTech is well positioned to both navigate and shape the AI-led transformation of the industry, while enabling clients to define and execute their AI agendas.
While strategic vision defines direction, execution determines outcomes. At HCLTech, we remain focused on making clear choices, investing ahead of the curve and delivering measurable outcomes for our clients and stakeholders. As we deepen our position as an AI-native, engineering-led partner of choice, we remain guided by a simple conviction: that the companies that will lead the coming decades are not those who merely adopt new technologies, but those who fundamentally reimagine how they create value with them. In a world where technology cycles are getting shorter, disruption is constant and value creation depends on intelligent, integrated ecosystems, we are building a company that is both resilient today and relevant for tomorrow — and we are doing it now.
Our Material Topics
HCLTech’s Double Materiality Assessment, conducted in FY26, identified the following sustainability topics as material for HCLTech. For more information, please read our Sustainability Report.

Managing Financial Capital
With strong and predictable cash generation, HCLTech recognizes financial capital as a critical enabler of strategic execution, operational efficiency and sustainable growth. Our disciplined financial framework supports investment in Advanced AI, digital engineering, platforms and talent while maintaining resilience across economic cycles.
In FY26, we delivered strong cash conversion, supported by disciplined working capital management and operational rigor. Our asset-right model, coupled with automation-enabled billing, collections and global delivery optimization, allowed us to generate robust Free Cash Flow while maintaining balance sheet strength. The company closed the year with its highest-ever cash balance, reinforcing financial flexibility and long-term stability.
Effective foreign exchange management remains integral to safeguarding earnings predictability. Through proactive hedging strategies, real-time rate monitoring and automated reconciliation, we mitigated risks associated with currency volatility and geopolitical uncertainty, ensuring stability across our multi-currency global operations.
Our capital allocation approach continues to be balanced and prudent — supporting organic investments, selective inorganic opportunities, consistent shareholder distributions and a strong balance sheet. In FY26, our Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) stood at 40.3%, reflecting efficient capital deployment and disciplined investment decisions across services and software portfolios. This performance highlights our ability to generate superior returns while scaling AI-led growth initiatives.
Value Creation for Shareholders
Creating long-term shareholder value remains central to HCLTech’s financial strategy. Our consistent focus on high-quality growth, steady margins, strong cash flows and disciplined capital allocation has enabled us to deliver top-quartile Total Shareholder Return (TSR) over the medium term.
HCLTech’s TSR performance reflects the successful translation of operational excellence into financial outcomes. Industry-leading growth have strengthened earnings quality and investor confidence.
A cornerstone of our shareholder value framework is our commitment to capital returns. Since the introduction of our capital allocation policy in FY22, we have paid out 89.9% of our Net Income to our shareholders. This translates into a record $8.5 billion in cash back to shareholders. In April 2026, the Board extended the capital allocation policy for another five years, committing to distribute at least 75% of net income cumulatively till FY31, resulting in consistently high payout ratios. This approach reinforces transparency, predictability and alignment with long-term investors.
Under the oversight of our Board and leadership, HCLTech continues to uphold strong governance, financial discipline and transparency, strengthening our institutional credibility and supporting valuation strength. With FY26 execution reinforcing our strategic direction, we remain well-positioned to deliver consistent, competitive and industry-leading returns for shareholders while continuing to re-engineer the future with AI.

Natural Capital
HCLTech’s operations are not resource-intensive by design. We depend on secure and sustainable access to energy and water, the core enablers of our digital platforms, data centers and operational ecosystems.
Through disciplined execution in energy efficiency, renewable adoption and water resilience, we are systematically decoupling growth from resource intensity. This creates a digital and AI infrastructure that is low-carbon, cost-predictable and inherently resilient. Progress toward 80% renewable electricity and net-positive water outcomes strengthens our ability to scale responsibly, even in resource-constrained environments.
Our stewardship of natural capital is fully embedded in business strategy. Guided by our Act–Pact–Impact philosophy, we drive operational efficiency, enable ecosystem collaboration and deliver measurable outcomes that reinforce resilience, cost discipline and long-term enterprise value.
Environmental Targets

Supported by a clear roadmap and strong governance, we are on track to achieve 80% renewable electricity within our committed timeframe. This disciplined execution enhances cost predictability, mitigates exposure to fossil-fuel volatility and reinforces HCLTech’s position as a leader demonstrating that operational excellence and decarbonization can scale together.
Water
Water resilience is a strategic priority for HCLTech, central to climate resilience, community well-being and long-term business sustainability. We have reduced operational intensity to ~10 liters per employee per day, which is about 35% below industry benchmarks, while delivering outsized impact by replenishing 51 times the water we consume.
Through HCLFoundation, we have restored over 47.57 billion liters by rejuvenating 386 water bodies, restoring catchments and harvesting rainwater.
Global partnerships and innovation-led initiatives further position HCLTech as a catalyst for scalable solutions—advancing from responsible water management to leadership in sustaining long-term water resilience across ecosystems and communities.
Our efforts improve resilience in water-stressed regions and reduce physical climate risk.
Waste and Circularity
Waste management is addressed through a circular economy lens, prioritizing reduction, reuse and recycling. All waste streams are measured, categorized and processed responsibly, supported by independent assessments to strengthen controls and identify improvement opportunities. In FY26, HCLTech maintained the Zero Waste to Landfill certification across all owned facilities, which has strengthened circularity, lowered long term waste related risk and reinforced HCLTech’s leadership in sustainable operations.
As a technology company, HCLTech recognizes electronic waste as one of its most material waste streams and is strengthening efforts to manage it responsibly through circular lifecycle practices and authorized recycling channels. HCLTech’s e-waste management framework integrates procurement discipline, lifecycle optimization and assured disposition to systematically eliminate waste leakage and maximize asset value across the hardware lifecycle.
