How is media converging into telecom?
Traditional TV distribution is under great stress. It is stuck between changing habits of media consumption, increasing trends of cord cutting, and rising content costs. International telecommunication service providers have started investing in platforms to deliver media content and large-scale media companies have started looking for opportunities in communication services, all this to reap benefits of OTT as soon as possible.
The convergence of telecom and media has become inevitable because of the consumer shift to online media content with ever increasing data transfer speeds and the roll-out of 5G. Competition from streaming services such as Netflix has increased, and this has particularly hit the revenues of legacy pay-TV providers, pushing them to partner with CSPs to create an ecosystem of next-gen media entertainment solutions. More flexible partnerships and multi-service platform strategies are the way forward.
