Blockchain - A Panacea for Healthcare Systems

Blockchain technology has already made its way to the healthcare sector, and this is only the beginning for future possibilities. Healthcare majors are still trying to figure out what this technology means for them.

There are some really interesting ways in which blockchain technology can improve healthcare operations. But they might not be a cure all for the industry today. Solutions like Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) came into the scenario to provide automation and healthcare process digitization, but gradually organizations realized the challenges of reporting and lack of collaboration in EMRs. These systems are designed in siloes, with no single protocol being followed by different EMR solution providers, resulting in a duplication of efforts.

While it is evident that technology is reshaping the healthcare domain, it’s good to keep in mind this is a marathon, and not a sprint. Organizations and entities are vetting how the technology can better support their operations, while future applications will certainly be discovered along the way. It’ll be a fascinating process to watch.
