HCL is proud to be part of India’s heritage of IT innovation. In 1976, when there were only 250 computers in the country, Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, led a team of eight young people who passionately believed in the power of information technology and the potential to create a thriving IT industry in India. From that vision, born in a Delhi “barsaati” (a small rooftop room), has grown a global enterprise. HCL Technologies (spun off as a separate unit in 1991) is today is one of the leading IT service providers worldwide, with a revenue of US$ 9.93 bn.
Since our inception, we’ve charted a compelling growth story. Over the years our customer satisfaction scores have gone up every year and revenues growth has outpaced that of our competitors. Very recently, we were recognized as one of the fastest growing IT services brands globally by the 2017 Brand Finance study of global 500 Brands. Our robust business performance has been a result of our unique ‘Relationship Beyond the Contract’ engagement model, and our ‘Employees First, Customer Second’ philosophy has inverted the organizational pyramid and created an ecosystem of innovation, with employees proactively generating solutions for our clients. This culture of idea-driven entrepreneurship is called Ideapreneurship.

In 1994, with a mission to develop global leaders in India through focused philanthropy, Shiv Nadar established the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Today it is one of the largest philanthropic institutions in India. The Foundation is investing generously in creating leadership institutions that serve urban and rural populations: Vidya Gyan, which nurtures leadership in rural India; Shiv Nadar Schools, which creates a community of independent, lifelong learners; Shiv Nadar University, which specializes in specific disciplinary areas and develop a broad-based learning foundation, and SSN College of Engineering, which has created leaders in diverse fields since 1996.
