Job Title: Network MPLS Migration Engineer
Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a skilled and experienced Network MPLS Migration Engineer to join our team. This role will be critical in planning, designing, implementing, and executing the migration of our network infrastructure to or within an MPLS environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring a smooth and successful transition, minimizing downtime and maintaining optimal network performance throughout the migration process.
Responsibilities:
- Migration Planning and Design:
- Assist in the design and planning phase of MPLS network migrations, including Proof of Concept (PoC) and the target "to-be" solution.
- Develop and update migration plans, including detailed "run book" activities based on requirements and guidance from network architects or project managers.
- Contribute to the assessment of technical risks and impact assessments for project dependencies, technical challenges, and customer/business partner requirements.
- MPLS Network Implementation and Configuration:
- Perform configuration, build, and testing activities for the new MPLS solution and during customer/business partner migrations.
- Implement and support IP/MPLS network transport systems, including the configuration of MPLS Core networks with LDP/MPLS and interior routing protocols like ISIS.
- Support and troubleshoot MPLS networks, including VPRN/VRF and MPBGP/BGP, in a multi-vendor environment.
- Testing and Validation:
- Prepare and execute test cases (unit, end-to-end, and other) to validate the new MPLS solution and migration process.
- Perform client and business partner migrations, including testing and post-migration support, often requiring evening and weekend work.
- Documentation and Support:
- Maintain network documentation, including topology diagrams, design specifications, and configuration files.
- Provide troubleshooting and support for network hardware operational issues related to MPLS.
- Serve as an escalation point for client VPN implementations and other network-related issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Proactively perform corrective maintenance for IP/MPLS networks.
- Develop automation and other internal systems and tools to assist in the maintenance and integration activities of the IP/MPLS network.
- Stay updated on industry trends and new technologies related to IP-MPLS.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent work experience is typically required.
- Proven experience in network engineering, with a focus on MPLS network design, implementation, and migration.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols, including MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and ISIS.
- Experience with network hardware from multiple vendors is desirable.
- Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
