HCLFoundation revamps multi-sports complex for underserved school students

Iteda Sports Complex inaugurated for students from government schools and urban slum communities of Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh

NOIDA, India, Aug. 28, 2023 HCLFoundation, which delivers the corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda for HCLTech in India, today announced the inauguration of the Iteda Sports Complex at Government Upper Primary School, in the Iteda village of Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh.

HCLFoundation has renovated the multi-sports complex to create a dedicated space for students from government schools and urban slum communities of Gautam Buddha Nagar district. It aims to provide professional coaching and equitable sports opportunity for the underserved students. The complex has been equipped with two cricket nets, one basketball court, one volleyball court, one football field and two long jump pits. It also has a equipment storeroom, washrooms for boys and girls and spectator stands.

“Our contribution in redeveloping the sports complex with modern infrastructure reflects HCLFoundation’s commitment to honing sports talent and further cultivating values of teamwork, determination and community integration. Through this endeavor, we reaffirm our conviction that sports hold the capacity to mould individuals and inspire vibrant societies that endure for generations,” said Dr. Nidhi Pundhir, Vice President, Global CSR, HCLFoundation.

As part of its commitment to nurturing sports talent from the grassroots level and foster a dynamic society for future generations, HCLFoundation organizes the Sports for Change Nationals. The participants are identified from HCLFoundation’s flagship programs Uday and Samuday and they receive nurturing support from HCLFoundation’s Sports for Change special initiative. Every participant goes through rigorous training, meticulous screening camps and intense qualifying rounds before reaching the Sports for Change Nationals.

HCLFoundation launched ‘Sports for Change’ as a key initiative in 2017 and embarked upon a journey to promote sports as a part of holistic education and to nurture talented children from underserved rural and urban communities in the sports of their choice. HCLFoundation believes in providing an equal opportunity platform to all children. Sports is an integral part of their holistic development. Professional coaching and mentoring play an important role in refining their talent, preparing them for state, national and international levels. The Sports for Change initiative has produced 13 international level and 42 national level players and have benefited 27,000+ children so far. Over 120 students are supported with full-time sports scholarships under HCLFoundation’s Power of One initiative.
