Design of Guide Vanes for an Axial Fan

This paper describes a task performed to increase the air flow through a fan for cooling an electrical motor. A methodology based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been developed to predict the flow through an axial fan which is used to cool an electric motor. Initial design calculations were carried out on existing model to check the capability of the fan and validate the flow rate as per experimental data.  Based on the calculations, it was decided to improve the inlet flow conditions to the fan. A few modifications were performed to the fan environment in order to get the flow rate needed to cool electrical components further with improvements in the flow path.
