“Technology is best when it brings people together.” MATT MULLENWEG

Imagine a world where all devices are connected with each other, anyone can access any device from anywhere. Whether it’s the TV, washing machine, lights, or any devices, they can be accessible from a single handle device. It’s like when you left office in a self driving car and when you reach near your home, the AC would start automatically, your cup of tea would be ready instantly. Imagine us googling like “where is my car key”, “where is my watch” and Google giving the right answers. Yes, it’s possible in the world of IoT.

In this growing world of technology where everything is connected, the monitoring of devices becomes indispensable. With the network of devices becoming more complex and data generated by these devices growing exponentially, it will definitely become challenging to monitor all the connected devices under one roof. Currently, around 25 billion connected things are being used worldwide and it is estimated that it will reach to 50 billion devices by 2020. So, from a consumer to a big enterprise, it will definitely become a need to monitor their devices. Not only a need but also a big opportunity for an individual and an enterprise to use the potential of IoT in every aspects of daily life, like education, energy efficiency, security, health, transport, and many more.

Fundamentally, Internet of Things is a connection of smart devices. A smart device is about the transformation of any physical device into a digital data device, which starts functioning in a smart way. It can have capability to generate data about its state, usage and presence. It can be accessible, traceable, controllable and upgradable remotely and when these devices interact with the process of Big Data and artificial intelligence, then it can become connective, predictive, intelligent, and autonomous. As the world is looking more toward cloud computing, Big Data, and IoT, it becomes essential to redesign the monitoring systems which will be compatible with a variety of devices and at the same time, be more secure, more robust, and fault efficient.

Now the question is, whether the traditional way of monitoring is well capable to monitor the IoT devices or not? Technologies like RFID, NFC, Optical tags, Low energy wireless IP networks, ZigBee, z-Wave, LTE-Advanced, and Wi-Fi direct, will definitely be a part of the upcoming IoT devices. Communication protocols like IpV6, UDP, 6lowPAN which will become backbone protocols for IoT to sustain the requirement of a highly scalable network. As the network is going to be more complex, huge amount of data needs to be maintained so business intelligence and advanced analytics will be the demand of future monitoring tools.

As IoT devices continue dominating the world, the dimensions of monitoring will expand. It is a crucial time to think out of the box and make the monitoring tools more compatible and scalable with IoT devices. As estimated, with the expansion of IoT devices, dimension like Infrastructure monitoring, Environment monitoring, Smart home monitoring, Smart City Monitoring, and Health Monitoring will take a big shape.

  • Infrastructure Monitoring: Monitoring of advance IT systems including servers, network, router, switches, CPU, memory, disk etc.
  • Smart City Monitoring: Monitoring traffic congestion, parking space, building condition, Smart Roads, Smart Lighting, Waste Management etc.
  • Environment Monitoring: Monitoring air pollution, combustion gases, snow Level, natural hazard, water purify level, energy consumption etc.
  • Health Monitoring: Monitoring health of children, patients inside hospitals, Monitor UV rays etc
  • Smart Home Monitoring- Monitoring home equipments, home temperature, home atmosphere etc.
IOT

The dimensions are limitless and it is up to us how we use the potential of this evolving technology. IoT is the future of growing Internet and it is needed to make it more secure. No doubt, it will be challenging, but it is definitely a demand of a changing and growing world.
