Martin Cheetham is a Banking Principal in HCL’s Vertical Systems Integration group. Martin has close to 40 years of experience in banking software design, development, implementation and sales. As a key member of HCL’s global banking team, Martin provides thought leadership and subject matter expertise in all areas of banking with a focus on Retail Banking, Payments and Lending (both Commercial and Retail).
Early in his career, Martin was based in Kuwait where he designed and led the implementation of one of the first real-time retail banking solutions implemented anywhere in the world. This was followed with the implementation of dual language ATM’s in the first country-wide implementation seen in the Gulf region. Martin went on to implement GL, Trade Finance, Commercial Lending and later, after moving to the US, Treasury solutions. Martin then transitioned to a software developer and led a series of consulting engagements with different clients across a number of different geographies (CIS countries, Eastern and Western Europe) which were aimed at understanding client requirements and fitting them to available solutions. After moving to FIS, Martin spent much of his time in Eastern Europe, focussing on Retail Banking and later moved into sales. At Misys, where Martin was prior to joining HCL, he was responsible for sales across all business lines, in particular Commercial Lending, Retail banking, Digital Front-End and Capital Markets. Martin is based in Poland where he resides with his wife. His children are living in New Zealand and Australia. Martin holds a BSc. (Hons) in Computation Science and Bio Physics. He is fascinated by all things mechanical and technology and will one day build his own car.
