In the first part of this blog “Towards 5G, Artificial neural networks and EDGE computing-Part 1”, we discussed the basic understanding of 5G, EDGE and ANN (Artificial neural networks). In this blog, we will see how 5G along with ANN and edge, can play a pivotal role in the communication evaluation. 5G communication needs higher bandwidth and lower latency, but the existing backbone internet doesn’t keep up with the above requirement due to the store and forward design and network congestion. So, to overcome this, the 5G network needs to process huge big data at edge itself and have better storage capability, as well as advanced CPU and GPU computing for intelligent decision. These requirements can be fulfilled by a combination of edge computing and artificial neural network-based machine learning algorithms effectively.

Mobile data traffic is rising rapidly due to new paradigms such as virtual reality, augmentation reality, mixed reality, autonomous vehicle, V2X, real time multi-player gaming, massive IoT like billions of connected intelligent IoT devices, and sensors. With billions of connected devices, the end user has a multifold growing number of connections. So, existing network technologies are fast becoming inept at handling these kinds of new communication wave which need improved energy efficiency model, ultra-low latency and high bandwidth requirements.

In this blog, the author discusses the 5th generation network system, EDGE computing, neural network-based machine learning models and its application on edge systems and 5th generation communication network.
