What is Ideapreneurship?

Ideapreneurship ™ is the self-sustaining, self-inspired, innovation engine that drives HCL forward. It is a unique innovation culture in which every employee gets the opportunity to ideate, and where these everyday ideas set a new business paradigm. At HCL, ideapreneurship has created an atmosphere where employees are taking the lead in finding solutions and ideas and then leading them to fruition. The foundation for this grass-root, business-driven, customer-focused environment was laid by HCL’s ‘Employees First’ values which collectively enthuse, empower, and encourage employees across the organization to come up with innovative solutions to operational and customer business challenges.

Ideapreneurship puts employees at the forefront of innovation where they innovate and collaborate with each other and with customers to seed, nurture and harvest ideas. This innovation and collaboration culture has given rise to a number of key enablers and tools to bring about a business impact -- The Value Portal, LeadGen, MAD JAM and Good Practices Conference.

The Value Portal encourages co-creation of value and has generated over 32,000 ideas on live client projects; MAD JAM celebrates outstanding ideas from within HCL that have been implemented for clients; and LeadGen encourages employees to contribute business opportunities enabling them to contribute directly to HCL’s revenue and earn monetary rewards with company-wide recognition.

Value Portal is a unique grass-roots innovation platform that lets employees contribute their ideas across hierarchical structures. The platform truly brings alive the ‘Employees First’ belief of giving a platform to the employees at the grassroots level for creating value for the customer as well as HCL. 


The Value Portal encourages, facilitates, manages, records, and shares customer-focused innovations at HCL. The application captures ideas in a structured manner, and enables internal review, approval and implementation for the customer. With more than 18,000 employees being engaged, the Value Portal has generated over 32,000+ innovative ideas for 380+ customers, with $600+ value delivered to the customers till date!


The LeadGen is a unique platform that encourages delivery employees to proactively identify customer needs and requirements and map it to a solution that can be offered by HCLT. 


The delivery employee wears the hat of an Ideapreneur to gauge any client servicing need, think solution and idea and further collaborate with the client partner to ensure that timely solutions are offered. The client benefits via this platform since hundred percent of the delivery team is encouraged to act on behalf of the client partner to ensure seamless client servicing. This platform currently has more than 2000 delivery employees engaged and over 1000 new servicing needs that have been delivered to. 


MAD JAM is the integral piece of the innovation engine at HCL that recognizes and celebrates outstanding employee-led innovations for customers. MAD JAM is a centralized platform for celebrating business-centric ideas that have been implemented. 


Till date, MAD JAM has helped many outstanding innovators share their best ideas for innovation and transformation. MAD JAM 2014 saw the more than 450 ideas being generated. The platform also picked up scale and interest within the organization with over 30,000 votes pouring in for the finalists. What the 2014 edition also brought forth was the potential for ideapreneurs to collaborate - with two ideas being merged into one in order to create a joint service proposition.

Good Practice Conference

The Good Practice Conference (GPC) is a strong platform to demonstrate the power of HCL’s ideapreneurship culture and ensures institutionalization across practices. 


Essentially, this conference encourages contribution towards business improvement for HCL and enables employees from all across the organization to put forth their suggestions, in the form of discussion papers. The shortlisted ideas are shared in an annual conference and the contributors are recognized and rewarded. All selected Good Practices are then published in the Conference e-book, hosted in where over 2000 Good Practices are accessible to everyone across HCL.
